The Emergency - Page 69

(tracks to TeKenVas)

Well done in clearing the threat area.  We saw the detonation of Train Y-64-Vi even from here.  It must have been deafening from your position.

The problem now is that the only transport we could divert will be coming from GeVinVas, the opposite direction from your current travel path.  With the track and surrounding region destroyed at switch three, plus the possibility of hostile forces in the outlying wilderness, we cannot have that transport come directly to you.

Your remaining options are to attempt to cross the threat area and meet up with the arriving transport, hold your current position until we can divert another transport from TeKenVas, or walk further toward this city.  I’m sorry we cannot advise more specifically at this time.

Worker ChoTen, please report.  Your position has not changed in the last five duodecads.  Are you waiting for transport?  An emergency diversion can be managed from TeKenVas if necessary, but we need your position.  Repeat, please report…

[Law enforcement reports worker ChoTen deceased.  The citizen was killed by officers while attempting to flee the site of a crime.  Specifically, the worker was suspected of aiding in the sabotage of Train Y-64-Vi by destroying evidence at the site.  Officers observed the worker igniting flammable materials within the wreckage of the derailed train, which caused subsequent combustion and eventually, detonation of the vehicle’s fuel cells.  When asked to stop for questioning, citizen ChoTen fled along the tracks toward TeKenVas.  It is unknown if the citizen hoped to meet up with co-conspirators in the area.  Other suspects apprehended in the area attempted to escape at the same time, while officers were diverted.  All suspects died in the explosion or from weapons fire.  Please retain all communication records from worker ChoTen for law enforcement examination.  Release of said records to any other party will constitute interference with an ongoing investigation.]

I have to say, I’m amazed you made it back alive.  Between your injuries and the hazards of travel in that area, crossing the kilometers between the third and second switching stations was no mean feat.  You will be spending a few days – paid vacation, of course – at TeKenVas Medical, recovering from your efforts.  This stay will also give an opportunity to evaluate your mental status and screen visitors for parasitic infestation.

Your eyewitness reports will help resolve a current crisis of information within EssTinTal.  Train Y-64-Vi was thoroughly incinerated at its crash site.  Given your reports, we have reason to believe it was destroyed in order to hide evidence of infiltration by Awakeners or some other, similar organism.  Warnings about this threat have met with resistance and skepticism.  It is uncertain to what extent this infiltration has compromised the planetary government.

Therefore, be cautious about whom you admit to your presence and whom you speak with, until further notice.  That said, try to get some rest.

There will be some difficult questions to answer regarding both the sabotage you observed and the subsequent attack on and destruction of Train Y-64-Vi.  There have also been reports of an attempt on the life of a Revered One in GeVinVas.  To be honest, you will be investigated to make certain you are not involved with the criminal conspirators responsible for these acts.  If you have no connection to these persons, you have no reason for concern.

That said, try to get some rest.  You’ll be staying put until this matter is resolved.

Your last transmission was cut off.  Please report.  Repeat, please report…
[Law enforcement reports worker ChoTen deceased, per positive identification of remains.  Cause of death was shock from untreated burns and radiation poisoning, compounded by contact with plant toxins from area vegetation.  Officers report that attempts to detain the citizen for medical assistance were unsuccessful; the victim resisted all efforts to assist and fled when approached directly.  Multiple unanswered questions may not be resolved even by further investigation, including the possibility of cognitive impairment in the victim, the victim’s association (if any) with conspirators responsible for sabotage on maglev line Y-64, or the victim’s complicity to destroy evidence on site.]

Worker ChoTen, you have been cited for dereliction of duty.  Oversleeping is never a valid excuse for missing a day of work.  I don’t care what kind of bizarre dreams you were experiencing, or how real they might have seemed.  If you have continued sleep disruptions, see an appropriate medical practitioner.  You will be expected to report promptly and ready for work tomorrow.  Otherwise, your employment will be terminated.  Understood?
